If Londoners are good at one thing, it’s not living in London.
With so many of us now – even when restrictions aren’t in place – spending some of the week working from home, commuters are looking further and further out when considering moving.
An hour’s commute just isn’t as grim a prospect if you’ve only got to do it a couple of times a week.
So villages like Pulborough are now getting more attention than probably ever before from house hunters looking to escape to the country.
It recently made a list of Rightmove’s 10 most in demand rural locations for homebuyers.

The only other places within commutable distance of London to make the list were Iver and Denham, both in Buckinghamshire, and Manningtree in Essex.
It might be nearer to the sea than the city but Pulborough has a train station and direct services to London Victoria can take as little as an hour and 17 minutes.
The village is right on the edge of the beautiful South Downs – so if you like spending your weekends walking or cycling you’ve come to the right place.
Brighton is a half hour drive away and you’re really close to the beautiful town of Arundel.
For a village, it is pretty big – with restaurants, cafes and pubs to choose between, with one bar, The Lantern, getting an average rating of 4.8 on Google.
Just to the west is the lovely town of Petworth, which is home to the spectacular stately home Petworth House.
As with most big mansions in the countryside, it’s a National Trust property!
Right on the edge of the village is Pulborough Brooks nature reserve where there’s a chance of seeing peregrine falcons which are regular visitors in the winter – scaring the living daylights out of ducks in the process as they hunt.

South Downs Light Railway in the village is popular with visitors, while you are also a short drive from Amberley, a lovely little village regularly named among the prettiest in the country.
If you are thinking of moving to Pulborough be warned, though – you’re not in a cheap part of the country.
The average house price is an eye-watering £619,795 according to Rightmove. So get saving.
