Stunning video of ice cream man’s funeral car being followed by dozens of vans blasting music in South London

A South London woman has gone viral after sharing a heartwarming video of an ice cream man’s hearse being followed by dozens of ice cream vans, all blaring music.

Louisa Davies shared the video earlier today, writing: “Just witnessed an ice cream man’s funeral and all the ice cream vans came and followed in solidarity I AM SOBBING.”

According to replies to the post, vans following in a funeral procession is a tradition among ice cream van drivers.

The vans were heard driving through Lewisham, Peckham and Brockley.

One Twiter user said: “OMG I heard this from Peckham and was like ‘what is that phantom ice cream van sound?’ I’m so glad the mystery is solved. It’s doing quite the rounds of South London Twitter.”

Another commented: “What love and respect for a member of their community. That’s just terrific. Look at all of the people who will remember him.”

A third added: “Wow! I heard ice-cream van jingles playing along Lewisham Way and thought “funny time of year for an ice cream”. What a beautiful tribute!”

Louisa told MyLondon she was staying at a friend’s house when she saw the procession and has been floored by the attention her viral tweet has received.

“I don’t know what to do,” she said, reminding those sharing the video the “be respectful” given it was someone’s funeral.

“Just think of the number of people he gave sheer joy to through his sliding glass serving window,” read one Twitter comment. “Very few of us can say that about our work. A life well-lived.”
