Southern Rail cancels trains to London Victoria for two weeks

The announcement spells weeks of misery for the capital’s commuters (Picture: PA)

All Southern Rail services to and from London Victoria have been scrapped for two weeks due to staff shortages.

The routes had already been suspended since Monday due to engineering works expected to last until January 3, but will now not run until at least January 10.

Southern trains will also stop calling at Battersea Park, Clapham Junction and Wandsworth Common in the meantime, spelling more misery for commuters for weeks.

Many routes have been diverted so passengers from outer London and beyond can still reach the capital.

They include services from Southampton, Hove, Hastings and East Grinstead, which are to be diverted at East Croydon and continue to London Bridge.

But three major services will not run at all: Clapham Junction to Milton Keynes, East Croydon to London Bridge, and Epsom to London Bridge.

Five other services connecting London to Tonbridge, Caterham, Uckfield, Beckenham Junction and Luton have been amended individually.

Ongoing engineering works also mean the Gatwick Express to and from London Victoria will remain suspended until January 3.
