West Ham and David Moyes told what to do to secure Champions League qualification

John Barnes has tipped West Ham to continue their push for a top four spot until the end of the season but has warned them it will be no easy feat.

The former England international believes there is only one spot up for grabs, with Barnes predicting the current top three, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea to pull away from the chasing pack.

West Ham had an eight game run from October to December in the top four before dropping out following their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Following the postponement of their match against Norwich the Hammers are playing catch up with those above them and Barnes has highlighted the matches against the bottom sides as key to a top four finish.

“To win the league, it’s not about beating Liverpool and Man City, it’s about beating everyone else. To finish fourth is the same. Avoiding relegation isn’t about beating the big boys, it’s about getting points off the others. West Ham are no different to any other club in that respect. They must simply focus on beating everyone else,” Barnes told BonusCodeBets.

Barnes added: “When we talk about getting in the top four, we mean fourth place. We know which teams will finish in the top three – Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

“West Ham will feel they have a chance of coming fourth. Not just because they have a good team, but because Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United are inconsistent and they’re in transitional periods.

“West Ham must play at the top of their game if they want that fourth spot.”

This season West Ham have performed exceptionally against the ‘big six’ sides with wins against Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool in the Premier League and knocking both Manchester sides out of the Carabao Cup.

However, the Hammers have dropped points against Crystal Palace, Brentford, Wolves and Brighton and it is these matches that Barnes has highlighted as the key to West Ham’s Champions League push.

Following the postponed match against Norwich, West Ham get back to Premier League action with three games in quick succession against teams in the bottom half, Southampton, Watford and Crystal Palace, and have the chance to take heed of Barnes’ advice.
