Brent Reyes still sees patients who do not believe that Covid-19 exists. The intensive care nurse, who works at the Royal Free Hospital in north London, worked through the peak waves of the Covid-19 pandemic in April 2020 and January 2021, and described the past two years as “really difficult” as he witnessed many more patients dying than usual.
“It was not something we were prepared for,” he said. “Covid really does a number on the body. It’s really heartbreaking to see what it does to families as well. A lot of patients, especially recently, have come in unvaccinated, some of them don’t believe there is Covid to begin with. To see them dying, it’s really heartbreaking.”
