London Covid: Latest coronavirus infection rates, cases and deaths for all parts of the capital

Six London boroughs reported over a thousand new Covid cases on Christmas Eve, latest figures show.

According to government data published today (December 25), 26,142 cases and 25 deaths were reported across all London boroughs on the 24th.

Despite high case numbers, 15 boroughs reported zero deaths yesterday. Wandsworth, where four Covid deaths were recorded, was the only London borough where more than two people died.

The highest case numbers were recorded in Lambeth, where 1,569 people tested positive for Covid on December 24. Zero deaths were recorded in the borough, however.

It was followed by Wandsworth (1,525 cases; four deaths), Croydon (1,176 cases; one death) and Southwark (1,134 cases; one death).

The lowest case numbers were reported in Kensington and Chelsea, where 474 people tested positive for the virus and zero deaths were recorded.

It was followed by Barking (484 cases; zero deaths), Kingston Upon Thames (528 cases; zero deaths) and Harrow (542 cases; one death).

15 boroughs recorded zero deaths, while 11 boroughs recorded one death each. Two deaths were recorded in five different boroughs: Ealing, Haringey, Bromley, Hackney and Newham.

Over the last week, case rates have been rising drastically as the Omicron variant rips through the capital.

All London boroughs saw cases rise by at least a third over the last seven days, while 21 boroughs recorded an increase of 50 per cent or more.

The steepest rise in Covid cases was seen in Sutton, where cases jumped by 80 per cent, although zero deaths were recorded on December 24.

It was followed by Hounslow (69 per cent increase; two deaths), Croydon (67 per cent increase; one death) and Haringey (65 per cent increase; two deaths).

When taken against each borough’s population, infection rates were highest in Lambeth (3,151 cases per 100,000 people), followed by Wandsworth (3,042), Hackney (2,725) and Southwark (2,654).

Hillingdon, meanwhile, saw the lowest rate of infection, with 1,094 cases per 100,000 population, followed by Harrow (1,208), Hounslow (1,279) and Barnet (1,353).
