Southampton’s Premier League clash with Brentford has been called off after the London club were hit by a COVID-19 outbreak at their training ground.

The Bees had requested that the Premier League postpone their trip to Southampton and spent much of Thursday in discussion with the league over the situation.

It came after Wednesday night’s meeting between Burnley and Watford was postponed only hours before kick-off with the Hornets affected by a COVID-19 outbreak.

Manchester United have also seen their trip to Brighton called off after they too were hit by a training ground outbreak, as well as Leicester City v Tottenham on Thursday evening.

The statement reads: “It is with regret that the Premier League Board has postponed a further four matches due to be played this weekend.

“The Board has agreed to postpone the matches after assessing individual club requests this evening. Brentford FC have an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. This has resulted in their training ground being closed which means they are unable to prepare for Saturday’s game.”

With that announcement from the Premier League, the affected fixtures are:

Watford FC v Crystal Palace FC Saturday, 18 December, at 3pm
