Extinction Rebellion live updates: Protesters block Edmonton incinerator near A406 in climate change demonstration

Extinction Rebellion protesters have blocked a main road during a climate demonstration this morning.

The climate group is demonstrating outside the Edmonton EcoPark Incinerator, off the A406 near Enfield, in protest against a planned expansion of the site (Monday, December 13).

Videos on social media show members of the group raising a beacon early this morning on one of the lanes on the road outside the incinerator park.

Starting their protest just before 6am, protesters have said plans to expand an incinerator at the plant that will burn waste amounts to ‘environmental racism’.

The protest comes just three days before local councils in North London – including Enfield, Waltham Forest, Haringey, Islington, Camden and Hackney – are set to hold a meeting in which a majority vote will decide on replacing the current incinerator with a bigger one with a large waste-burning capacity.
