London’s King’s Cross Station has reopened after hundreds of passengers were evacuated and swarms of police descended on the scene following a report of a man with a suspicious package. 

Photographs shared online show hundreds of passengers waiting outside the station following the evacuation at 8pm.

Crowds were allowed back into the station after a man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. 

Metropolitan Police said a man with a ‘suspicious package’ had boarded a train ‘which was then evacuated as a precaution’. 

The incident is not being treated as terrorism-related, police said. 

One passenger wrote online: ‘Armed police stormed kings cross. Police dogs have also just entered. Kings cross evacuated.’ 

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told MailOnline: ‘Police were called to Kings Cross Railway Station at 19.53hrs on Wednesday, 8 December to reports of a man with a suspicious package.

‘Officers attended. The man had boarded a train, which was then evacuated as a precaution. 

‘The man then came off the train and was arrested on suspicion of public order offence. A search of the train was carried out as a precaution. A number of platforms were evacuated.

‘The incident is not being treated as terrorism-related at this time.’
