London Weather: The exact time the capital is going to be hit with 50mph gusts of wind

London will be bracing itself today for winds of up 50mph as Storm Barra hits the British Isles.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for most of the UK as strong winds approach, which may lead to widespread travel disruption.

The high winds may cause delays to road and rail transport, power may be impacted and potential of heavy rainfall.

A met office spokesperson said: “A deep area of low pressure moving in across the UK from the Atlantic is likely to bring high winds to many parts of the UK.

“Strong winds arriving into the west through the morning, spreading inland and reaching eastern areas through the afternoon and early evening.

“Gusts of 45-50 mph are expected widely, with 60-70 mph in exposed coastal locations. Strongest winds will ease across inland areas into the overnight period.”

The weather warning is in place for most of the UK, from 9am to 11.59pm Tuesday (December 7th) as other parts will see snow and heavy rain.

The Met Office has warned people to expect delays to travel including bus services, trains and ferry’s and even short term loss of power and other services.

They stipulated that it’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and large waves.

From 1pm, most of London is predicated to see an increase in wind speed and rainfall due to the impacts of Storm Barra.

In North London, areas like Tottenham could see strong wind reach 31 mph at 1 pm then rise to 38 mph by 3pm.

In South London, forecaster predict areas like Wimbledon will see an increase by 12pm. Wind speeds will reach 31 mph at 12pm, then will rise to 42 mph at 3pm.

The heavy wind should settle down by 5pm decreasing to 36 mph.

In East London, areas such as Hackney will see winds of 32 mph at 1pm. It will rise to 39 mph by 4pm.

In West London, areas like Westminister will see an increase at 1pm. Winds will start at 32 mph then reach 39 mph at 3pm.
