South Western Railway launches this year’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal

South Western Railway (SWR) has launched the company’s 2021 Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

As in previous years, stations across South Western Railway’s network will take part in the appeal. The company is aiming to beat last year’s total of 750 shoeboxes and over 600 individual gifts, all of which were distributed by local charities to benefit the vulnerable.

From Monday, 6th to Saturday, 11th December, SWR’s customers are urged to donate shoeboxes of gifts or even just a single gift and take it to one of the SWR stations taking part.

Colleagues will then collect them to pass on to the company’s nominated local charities where they will help vulnerable children, adults, and the homeless, at Christmas.

SWR staff at participating stations will be working with agency partners Adecco Rail and STM to help make the festive season just a bit better for people in difficult circumstances.

South Western Railway operates over 1,500 services each weekday and employs over 5,000 employees. It runs commuter inter-urban, regional, and long-distance services in South West London and the southern counties of England, as well as Island Line services on the Isle of Wight.

Jim O’Brien, Station Contracts Manager for SWR, who is coordinating the appeal, said:

“We know that local charities based in the communities around our stations provide vital support for the vulnerable and the homeless all year round, but the holiday season is an especially difficult time for so many.
“We hope that people who live near and travel from participating stations will donate what they can and help the less fortunate this Christmas.”

Stations taking part in the Christmas Shoebox Appeal are:

Ascot, Basingstoke, Bournemouth, Clapham Junction, Chandlers Ford, Earlsfield, Fareham, Fratton, Guildford, Hampton, Hedge End, Kingston, London Waterloo, Portsmouth and Southsea, Portsmouth Harbour, Putney, Richmond, Ryde (IOW), Shepperton, Southampton, Sunbury, Swanwick, Wimbledon, Winchester, Woking.
