Angel: Man dies & another taken to hospital after being found in canal

man has died and another has been taken to hospital after being pulled from Regent’s Canal in Islington on Sunday night.

The two men were discovered in a section of the canal near Graham Street just after 11.20pm.

Police attended the scene along with members of the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and other emergency services, including the National Police Air Service and the Met’s Marine Support Unit.

First aid was provided to one man who was found in the water. He was taken to hospital where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

A second man was recovered from the water some time later. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital, but pronounced dead on Monday morning.

Pictures posted on social media show a man being carried by emergency services on a stretcher towards an ambulance.

A section of the canal between Froglane Bridge and City Road Lock has been closed, the Canal & River Trust confirmed.

The incident is not believed to be suspicious. A cordon remains in place while police continue their enquiries.

A statement from the Met said: “A cordon remains in place. Enquires continue to determine the circumstances but at this early stage the incident is not believed to be suspicious.
