Two men to face trial over fatal shooting of Otas Sarkas in Newham

Two men have pleaded not guilty during a hearing at the Old Bailey after they were charged with the murder of 20-year-old Otas Sarkus who was shot.

Dean Adams, 31, of Stevenage Road, East Ham, and Deon Brisport, 29, of Lauriston Road, Hackney, appeared via video link from Thameside Prison.

They only spoke to confirm their name, date of birth and to enter their not guilty pleas.

Mr Sarkus was found by emergency services with a fatal gunshot wound in Raymond Road in the Upton Park area of Newham.

Armed police had been called to the residential street at 10.50pm on August 18 after hearing reports of a shooting.

He was transported to hospital where he sadly died of his injuries two days later.

A second man, aged 18-years-old, was also found injured on a Route 238 bus on Plashet Grove.

His condition was established as non-threatening after he was admitted to hospital.

Police had initially appealed for information regarding a white Volvo 4×4, which they believed the killers had escaped in.

A murder investigation was launched by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command and Crimestoppers offered a £10,000 reward for information that would lead to an arrest in connection with the killing.

Adams and Brisport were arrested on September 15 and appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court the same day.

They were both charged with murder and attempted murder, and remanded in custody.

A third man, aged 28-years-old, was also arrested but subsequently released.

A trial date has been set for November 21, 2022.
