Travel chaos as passengers stuck on trains for hours after ‘serious incident’

Passengers reported being stranded in the middle of the night after a serious railway incident caused chaos in the capital.

An accident reportedly involving a person between London Euston and Watford Junction resulted in severe disruption at one of London’s busiest stations.

Some were stuck on non-moving trains for at least three hours, while others were left at the station past midnight with no way to get home.

Services to Milton Keynes, Bletchley and a Caledonian Sleeper are thought to be among those affected.

A tweet from Euston posted just after 12am on Friday morning read: “All lines are still blocked due to an incident at #HarrowandWealdstone Emergency services are on site so we can’t reopen until everyone is safely off the railway

“We’re sorry to those of you caught up in the disruption. We’re doing our best to get you moving.”

Meanwhile, a number of passengers took to the platform to express their frustration at having their nights thrown into disarray, with a user named smallnorth writing: “My 10pm train left Euston, got stuck in an ‘incident’ at Harrow and got sent back to Euston.

“Been on it for 3hrs now and am 0 miles closer to home.”

Another unfortunate passenger replied with further information around half an hour later, saying: “Coming into to Euston, our announcer has just said emergency services still working as the driver was also seriously injured!”

London Northwestern Railway, who run national train services from Euston, have advised customers who chose to travel to their chosen destination by taxi that they can claim reimbursement by submitting a receipt of their trip to to their website.

The operator has also told travellers that some delayed trains will be running from the station throughout the night.
