Scholes and Wright agree on Smith Rowe goal
Ian Wright and Paul Scholes both believe David De Gea was too soft in the build-up to Arsenal’s opening goal in their clash with Manchester United on Thursday evening.
De Gea went down with an injury after clashing with his United team-mate Fred and Smith Rowe took advantage of the empty net to give the Gunners the 1-0 lead at Old Trafford.
Scholes said: “Letter of the law and for David’s reaction. It probably summed Fred’s night up, that, a foul on his own goalkeeper.
“David should never go down like that, whether he’s injured or not, he should always protect his goal, whether there’s a whistle or not, he should never go down well and face the wrong way.”
Wright added: “He caught him on his heel. I’m sorry, I don’t think that’s enough to go down. If he gets elbowed in the face, then you could see it, but for him to be stood on his heel.”
