Piers Corbyn appears in court charged with attending five anti-lockdown protests alongside anti-vaxx nurse and other demonstrators
- Corbyn, 74, and four others are facing court action over anti-lockdown protests
- Another campaigner Fiona Hine, 36, is representing herself in court for trial
- She plans to call witnesses including a number of names in health and politics
- They include Sadiq Khan, Matt Hancock, Neil Ferguson and Jonathan Van-Tam.
Piers Corbyn and a group of fellow anti-lockdown protesters have appeared in court accused of breaking coronavirus restrictions over a year ago.
The former Labour leader’s brother, 74, is charged with holding and participating in a gathering of over 30 people at Trafalgar Square on August 29, 2020.
Piers is also facing similar charges of holding and attending gatherings in Trafalgar Square on August 26, 2020, and October 24, 2020, in Westminster on November 28 and on the South Bank on December 31 that year.
Other anti-lockdown protesters facing trial are Louise Creffield, 35, Vincent Dunmall, 55, Fiona Hine, 36, and Kay Shemirani, 55.
The trial of Hine and Shemirani is due to start at Westminster Magistrates Court next Monday while the others appeared separately.
Hine is representing herself and wants to call witnesses including politicians Sadiq Khan and Matt Hancock, epidemiologist Neil Ferguson, Metropolitan police commander Alex Murray and Deputy Chief Medical Officer Professor Jonathan Van-Tam.

Other anti-lockdown protesters facing trial are Louise Creffield, 35, Vincent Dunmall, 55, Fiona Hine, 36, and Kay Shemirani, 55 (pictured).
She wishes to question them about the decisions made around the lockdown restrictions.
She said: ‘I thought I’d give it a go.
‘I’m under no illusion that maybe I’m trying a bit too hard here to prove my point but I want to be given a fair opportunity.’
Hine denied attending gatherings of over 30 people on August 28, 2020, at Trafalgar Square and September 5 that year at Whitehall.

She also faces a charge of holding a gathering of over six people at Trafalgar Square on 19 September.
Hine accused the CPS of failing to communicate effectively with her. ‘This system is not made and built for people who choose to represent themselves,’ she said.
‘It’s certainly not,’ Corbyn quipped from the dock.
Hine, of Putney, and Corbyn, of Walworth, London, face trial for breaking lockdown restrictions along with Creffield, of Brighton, Dunmall, of Orpington, Kent, and Shemirani, of Uckfield, East Sussex.
A group of supporters watched the hearing from the public gallery and gave Hine a round of applause as she left the courtroom.
The group held a protest outside with anti-mask and anti-vaccine signs.
