The Met Office has issued fresh weather warnings for snow and ice in southern England.

Up to 2cm of snow could fall in London this evening, the Met Office said.

Yellow warnings are now in place covering London, the South East and the East of England – with parts of the Midlands and the North East already covered.

The alert will remain in place until 5pm today, forecasters said.

Forecasters said: “Snow, which has been falling across northern areas so far today, will continue southwards, lasting only an hour or so in any one place. Up to 1-2 cm may accumulate on some untreated surfaces and more widely on grass.”
