Westminster incident: Road on lockdown as armed police surround ‘suspicious’ man on bus

Armed police officers and several police cars surrounded a bus on Lupus Street in Westminster, central London today, following reports that someone onboard was acting suspiciously

A road in central London were closed down while armed police officers surround a reported ‘suspicious’ person on a bus.

Footage from the scene, shot in Lupus Street roughly 1km south of Buckingham Palace and leading to Pimlico underground station, shows armed officers in the road.

A red double decker bus is stopped on the side of the road and a police car blocking the street.

Metropolitan Police Service Westminster tweeted: “There’s an increased police presence in Lupus Street, Westminster while officers respond to reports of a person acting suspiciously on a bus.

“There are no reports of any injuries and no cause for alarm. The road is closed and the public should find alternative routes.”

One man, who witnessed the police action, said he didn’t hear any sirens but saw police encircled around the Number 24 Pimlico bus.

At least four marked police cars could be seen surrounding the bus.

One man in the area tweeted: “Massive police incident on Lupus Street Pimlico. Avoid at all costs.”

A short while later the police stood down and said that the incident was over.

“Officers have carried out a thorough search of the bus and nothing suspicious was found,” a spokesperson said.

“The incident has been stood down and Lupus Street is being re-opened.”
