Live A2 traffic updates after ‘police chase’ leaves road closed in both directions near Sittingbourne

The A2 is closed in both directions near Sittingbourne after reports of a police chase.

Emergency services have been pictured at Keycole Roundabout at the junction with the A249.

The closure of the A2 and delays on the A249 have led to chaos in the surrounding areas.

Kent Police confirmed they are dealing with a police incident and asked drivers to use a different route.

Reports online suggested a car was on fire and armed police were in attendance but this has not been confirmed.

There have also been reports of a helicopter in the air as emergency services rush to the scene.

Travel site Inrix has said: “A2 London Road in both directions closed, heavy traffic due to accident from Lower Hartlip Road (Hartlip) to Playstool Road (Newington).”

Fire services are at the scene.
