Murder investigation launched after man, 42, dies from head injuries 1 month after street attack

Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man just short of a month after he was assaulted on the street in South London.

Riccardo Holness, 42, sustained head injuries in the attack on Sunday, October 17 on High Street, Beckenham at shortly after 1.20am.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he lost his fight for life nearly a month later on Friday, November 12.

A post-mortem examination on November 17 gave the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on October 18 on suspicion of GBH and was bailed pending further enquiries.

Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Detective Inspector Dave Blair said: “Our thoughts remain with Riccardo’s family who are understandably distraught at what has happened.

“We are working hard to establish the facts of the incident and would ask anyone who witnessed the assault or who has any information to contact us as soon as possible.”
