The Reddit user shared his experiences on the site after he discovered how different UK cheddar was to the cheese he’s had in the States.

He wrote: “Not from UK, but I finally tried some real UK cheddar cheese and I feel I’ve been lied to my whole life.

Other Reddit users chimed in to praise food from the UK, despite the bad reputation it often has.

One user said: “The UK is one of the great cheese producing countries, but it does often get forgotten about because of France and Italy.”

Another commented: “I honestly find it strange that British cuisine is such a laughing stock globally, we genuinely have loads of really nice and unique dishes.

“Cheeses are great, our sauces are great, the way we do pies and pastries is totally different to how they’re done in France for example. Our sweets and snacks are great too!”

Another fan similarly added: “Yes cheddar is often looked down on compared to more traditional cheese varieties from France or other parts of Europe, but I think cheddar is hugely under appreciated, and compared to US cheeses (which are basically just congealed goo) UK cheddar is on an ivory tower.”
