Builder becomes trapped after West London extension collapses around him

A man, believed to be a builder, was rushed to hospital after he was trapped when an extension collapsed in West London this morning.

Emergency services were called at 8.53am on November 17 to reports that an extension had collapsed at a semi-detached house on Windsor Avenue in Uxbridge.

The first floor of a two-storey extension which was under construction collapsed to the ground floor, trapping a man.

Firefighters worked to free the man and he was rushed to hospital with leg injuries.

A passer-by was told the man who was injured was a builder working on the renovation.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to reports of an extension collapsing at a semi-detached house on Windsor Avenue in Uxbridge this morning.

“The first floor of a two-storey extension which was under construction collapsed to the ground floor, trapping one person.

“Crews worked to free the man, who was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

“The Brigade was called at 0850 and the incident was over for firefighters by 0951. Fire engines from Hillingdon, Ruislip and Hayes fire stations and a fire rescue unit from Heston Fire Station were at the scene.”

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 08:53hrs on Wednesday, 17 November to reports that part of a building had collapsed on Windsor Avenue, UB10.

“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade

“One man was removed from the building and taken to hospital for leg injuries. No further injuries.”
