Tilney S&W poaches Kleinwort Hambros director for London team

Tilney Smith & Williamson has added another recruit to its ranks through the appointment of a Kleinwort Hambros veteran to its London investment management team.

Andrew Lewin joins the firm as an investment director, having most recently worked as a director at Kleinwort Hambros.

At the private bank, Lewin (pictured) was a responsible for providing wealth management solutions to UK and International families, trusts and charities.

He has 14 year’s wealth management experience, which includes spells as an associate director at RBC Wealth Management and private banker at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management.

Welcoming Lewin to the business, Tilney S&W director Holly Merriman said his experience will benefit the firm as it looks to expand its client base.

Lewin’s appointment follows a spate of recent hires by Tilney S&W across the country, with the group continuing an aggressive growth push that started with the merger of Tilney and Smith & Williamson in 2020.

Among the most senior hires was former British Land CEO Chris Grigg, who replaced Will Samuel as the firm’s chair in August.

More recently, the firm added five staff to its Newcastle office earlier this month through signing private client boutique Explore Wealth Management to its succession planning programme.

Investment manager Matthew Burgess moved to the Newcastle branch in July, after working for five years at Tilney’s Liverpool office, to launch a local portfolio management team.

In October,  Aviva veteran Neil Thornton joined the business’s Exeter office as a financial planner. That came after Will Matthewman joined the same branch as an investment manager from Charles Stanley the previous month.
