‘Unluckiest DJ’ ever falls into Covid coma, dies for 5 minutes and then shatters leg

A Brixton man, 52, has declared himself the ‘unluckiest DJ alive’ after recovering a Covid induced coma only to shatter his leg while cycling in Spain.

The man, who goes by the synonym of ‘The Secret DJ’ (SDJ), revealed how he died for five minutes after catching the Delta variant at the Euro 2020 final and had to be brought back to life by Spanish doctors.

Speaking to MyLondon from his latest hospital bed, SDJ explained how his traumatic two years have left him in the unenviable position of having to crowdfund medical care for his numerous ailments.

As a successful DJ, SDJ was used to traveling Europe and playing shows before Covid struck in early 2020 and knocked him for six.

He said: “The first time I had it was back in early 2020, I wasn’t very well, it was three weeks of the worst sickness I’d ever had.

“I isolated and started a campaign across the industry to stop the spread of Covid.”

For most people catching Covid once would be more than enough, however, SDJ’s fortunes weren’t as kind.

After happening upon a set of tickets to England’s Euro final in July, SDJ was again struck down by the virus – this time with far more severe consequences.

He explained: “The irony of course was when I caught it the second time I was at the England v Italy Euro 2020 final – I don’t even like football.

“I was single vaxxed at the time but still caught the delta variant.

“I realized I had it after I returned to Ibiza and then my symptoms went downhill.

“I was flown bollock naked from Ibiza to Majorca where I was put in an induced coma. I had double pneumonia, bronchitis, and lung infections.

“I even died for five minutes and they had to massage my heart to bring me back. This was all from the Delta variant.”

At SDJ’s lowest point he was unable to move for weeks on his hospital bed and rigged up to a host of life-saving machines.

Describing the experience, he admits it was ‘hell on earth.

He said: “When you’re in a coma it’s weird, you’re not asleep but you can’t move.

“They have to flip you over like a steak. It was hell on earth. I had sensory deprivation, I was tubed up in every hole, poo bags, pee bags, things in my lungs – the works.

“All I could do was stare up at a patch of ceiling, I was tied in like a mental patient.

“After two months of being in bed recovering from the coma and the complications I got out and tried to get better.

“I was trying to exercise which was my downfall.

“My bones had been weakened and I had muscle atrophy. I looked like a flying squirrel – just loose skin and bingo wings. It was horrendous the effect it had on my body, you’re essentially just a slab of meat.”

The grisly injury means he will be unable to walk for 12 months

When he was finally able to exercise again, tragedy struck again when he snapped his foot in a vicious cycling accident.

He said: “I turned a corner on my bike in Spain last week and skidded on some oil, I put my foot out to correct it and it just snapped.

“I won’t be able to walk for 12 months, it seems like something that will never end at the moment. I’ve had the worst luck imaginable. I’m the unluckiest DJ in the world.”

A scan showed the bone had snapped

Now after his latest setback, SDJ has turned to fundraising in a bid to get himself back on his own two feet.

He told MyLondon it sadly seemed his only option.

He revealed: “As I was overseas I didn’t have any palliative care, I tried to get involved in the system here with very little success.

“Care is quite hard to get through the social security system.

“I’m trying to raise money to help pay for it, it seems fairer to ask my friends rather than the state. There’s too much pressure on health systems around the world due to Covid.

“Sometimes it seems easier to ask your friends.”
