‘A used condom’

Many of the reviews make for sobering reading for the hotel, with most guests reporting a terrible stay.

One review on the site, titled simply ‘Disgusting’, makes a series of allegations about what they stumbled across in their room.

They said: “If I could give zero stars I would!

“The room is filthy! Black mould in the bathroom and a weird smell about the place.

“The worst thing was a used condom on the bedside table.

“This room clearly hadn’t been cleaned at all and I didn’t sleep that night! Good location but spend more and get somewhere nicer!”

‘Very rude staff’

Another disgruntled customer said that they had been surprised by the dirtiness of their room and singled out some staff for criticism.

They wrote: “The hotel was very dirty, old and dirty carpet from the stairs, and all the way up.

“No lift, and the shower and the bathroom had mould all around. Run-down furniture and above all…VERY RUDE STAFF except for the man when we first checked in.

“I am very disappointed.”

‘I left within 30 minutes’

Another furious customer berated the smell and atmosphere of the hotel during their very short stay.

They said: “Had the hotel booked for one night while I attended a work event. As soon as I entered the place I could smell body odour.

“I was given a key to my room in the basement, the carpets were filthy didn’t look like they had been vacuumed for months.

“The room was dirty and the walls were covered in marks and cracks. I did not stay and checked out within 30 minutes.

“When I gave my key back to reception and explained why I was leaving they just stared at me like I was an alien.

“How does this place even stay open?”

‘Happy overall’

However, despite the bad press, there is a smidgeon of positive reviews of the hotel.

One reads: “The location is great just behind Marble Arch/Oxford Street station.

“The rooms are basic but clean and tidy, friendly staff and great restaurants nearby. stayed there for four days in January and will go again this month-end. Happy overall.”

MyLondon approached the Berkeley Court Hotel for a response to their reviews but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
