Police given Section 60 stop and search powers in Acton

Ealing Police have tonight (November 8) activated a Section 60 order in Acton following violence in the area.

The officers’ action was implemented by Inspector Dryell at 8.15pm and will be in operation until 11.14am tomorrow (Tuesday, November 9).

The Section 60 gives police the power to stop and search individuals for offensive weapons or dangerous instruments.

It is a power given by an officer at inspector level or above which allows the police to stop and search anyone in the given area without needing to have reasonable grounds to do so.

It is granted under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.
