Mohammed Aqil Mahdi: Murder victim named as detectives probe for evidence

etectives have released the name of a 22-year-old man who was stabbed to death by a canal in Tower Hamlets.

Mr Mahdi, of Camden north London, had suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Homicide detectives from specialist crime are leading the investigation but there have been no arrests.

“Our investigation is at an early stage but we are making progress,” DCI Laurence Smith said.

“I am determined to get justice for the victim’s family by finding whoever is responsible for this murder.

“I urge any witnesses or anyone who saw anything that may be significant to please make contact with police, or with Crimestoppers, and share what they know.”

Formal identification and a post-mortem examination are yet to take place.
