A woman who wanted to move to South London has asked for advice about areas South of the river that are ‘bad places to live’.
The woman wanted to emigrate to an area close to Clapham and had a budget of a whopping £950k.
She asked parents on Mumsnet what areas they thought were undesirable and asked for advice as to where the best place to live is, but do you agree?

The unnamed home searcher enquired: “I am relatively new to the area, coming from outside London and understand that I am likely to comprise open spaces and relative “polish” for convenience and proximity to the centre of London.
“I have noticed that in these areas you can find some lovely streets next to not so great ones.
“It would be great to get some insight on what areas to avoid in Clapham for any reason (grottiness, safety, reputation, convenience….) to help me narrow down my search areas.”
Overall her demands weren’t that high, just ‘grottiness, safety, reputation, convenience’.
However, commenters were quick to tell the potential house buyer where they believed didn’t stand up to her expectations and offered their recommendations on where to live.
One man was quick to advise against one particular London Borough, he said: “I would avoid being in Lambeth. Clapham South is best.”
Another commenter advised the woman to search in a completely different area: “I lived in Clapham and Brixton before moving to Streatham which I think is massively superior to both – I never really got the Clapham hype!”
Transport was a key factor for one man who said: “Clapham South, Common and North are all quite difficult to get on the tube in rush hour. I also think Clapham Common is quite ‘young’.”
He went on to advise a that the woman live in a suburb mainly in the Wandsworth borough: “Balham was my absolute favourite place to live, you have both the tube and the overground, could always get on the train, two big supermarkets, a great community feel with lots of cafes and restaurants, but not full of 20 somethings like Clapham Common.”
It seems money saving was key for another commenter, who said: “Wandsworth (borough) has cheaper council tax so may be worth factoring in.”
