West Ham player ratings vs Genk as Benrahma stunner saves Hammers from European embarrassment

Alphonse Areola – Made a couple of good saves in the first-half but could not stop Joseph Paintsil’s shot. A virtual bystander in the second period, nothing he could do about the late own goal. 6

Vladimir Coufal – Continued his recovery from fitness with valuable minutes, work hard and was one of the least bad players in the first half, not that that is saying a lot. key to the equaliser with a fine run and pass to Benrahma. 7

Craig Dawson – Huge threat at set-pieces and was trying to rally the troops throughout a poor first half. 6

Issa Diop – Poor start to the match from Diop, could have done better on Paintsil’s goal and too often gifted the ball to Genk when under little pressure. 5

Aaron Cresswell – Was unable to get forward as often as when playing behind Benrahma with Masuaku occupying his space. 6

Mark Noble off 58- Caught in possession on occasion and off the pace at times. Too easily bypassed in midfield. 4

Declan Rice – Rightly booked for a poor tackle in the first-half, started uncharacteristically slowly but grew into the game. 6

Arthur Masuaku off 58 – His tendency to run on the outside of the right-back hampered Cresswell’s efforts on the overlap. Looked like a lack of understanding between the two. Poor performance from the wide man. 4

Said Benrahma – Showed flashes of skill but too often made the wrong decision with the final ball in the first-half. Fine finish for the equaliser which seemed to boost his confidence as he improved towards the latter part of the match and capped it off with a simply superb second goal. 7

Manuel Lanzini off 85- Wasted possession and was on the periphery of the game for much of his time on the pitch until playing in Coufal with a lovely pass to set-up Benrahma. 6

Michail Antonio off 58 – Poor night for the strikers return to European action and rightly substituted before the hour mark. 5

Substitutes –

Tomas Soucek on 58 – More dynamic than Noble and gave Rice the support the captain had failed to do. Unfortunate to concede a late own goal when stretching for the ball. 6

Pablo Fornals on 58 – Looked dangerous on the counter-attack and tracked back well to help out Cresswell. 6

Jarrod Bowen on 58 – Very lively after his introduction providing pace to the West Ham attack. 6

Alex Kral on 85 – n/a
