EastEnders star who had a forgotten role in Coronation Street years before

Whether it’s Coronation Street, EastEnders or Hollyoaks, as any die-hard soap fan will know, crossovers are extremely rare.

Just yesterday, EastEnders aired a ground-breaking episode that featured a cross-over with Coronation Street when Albert Square’s Tiffany Butcher watched a viral video on her phone that featured Corrie’s Maria Connor giving an impassioned speech about climate change.

However, while this is the first time a crossover of this magnitude has occurred, there have been crossovers of sorts in the past, notably with some of the cast.

One famous face, in particular, dabbled in a Coronation Street role, before joining the EastEnders cast.

Gillian Wright, 61, has played Jean Slater, mother of Stacey Slater (who recently returned to the show after being in prison for much of the past year) since 2004.

Gillian’s character Jean suffers from bipolar disorder, and Jean conducted extensive research into the disorder to prepare for the role.

Jean went through a breast cancer scare earlier in the year, after discovering a lump in December 2020.

However, in September, it was revealed on the show that Jean received the all-clear back in January.

Although Gillian’s career started on EastEnders, she was only originally signed on for one episode.

Shortly after starring in her first episode of the show in 2004, she went on to make two guest appearances in Coronation Street the following year.

Appearing on the show in September 2005, Gillian played Yvonne, the wife of former Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald’s short-term love interest Barry.

Yvonne confronts Liz about her fling with Barry after suspecting that they are sleeping together, leading to the short-lived fling petering out.
