So far this season, Tomas Soucek has not been able to replicate the goalscoring form of his first full campaign as a Hammer but the midfielder is confident the goals will soon return to his game.
During the 2020-21 season, Soucek scored ten Premier League goals for West Ham and grabbed four for his country as well. This campaign Soucek has managed just one goal for club and country in 19 appearances, an opening day strike against Newcastle United.
The Czech captain believes the goals will return to his game soon and hopes they will be decisive ones for the Hammers.
“I just want to make it [my finishing] more precise and the goals will definitely come again,” Soucek told Gol.
Despite his poor form in front of goal, West Ham as a team are performing excellently and that is all that matters for Soucek.
“The important thing is that the team wins and we perform well,” he added. “I hope to score a goal when needed, not need when we lead 2-0 to make it 3-0. [I want to] score a winning goal!”
West Ham are currently fourth in the Premier League level on points with third-placed Manchester City and have the opportunity to move above Liverpool on Sunday when the two sides go head to head.
“I’m glad we’re still up there, and I hope we can stay there a long time. We share it with the best teams,” he said. “I believe we will stay on top!”
Soucek is aiming to keep the Hammers competing for the European spots but believes his team are not yet one of the established top dogs in the Premier League.
“West Ham played for a long time around the twelfth, thirteenth positions [and] two or three years back almost fell [out of the Premier League]. Last year was the club’s most successful season in the Premier League, so we can’t say we are always in the top six.

“But if we present ourselves with such performances as we are now giving, we can easily end up in it again. It is also our goal. But we must take it with respect. Go match by match.”
Soucek has put West Ham’s success down to the stability of the Hammers squad and the improvements made over the summer transfer window.
He said: “Last season, one big team was formed, the players and the group bonded. We stick together and you can see it on the field, where we don’t release anything one after the other. Jessie [Lingard] left, but new players [Kurt] Zouma, [Nikola] Vlasic and Alex Kral came in to reinforce it a bit, which is important given the many matches. But the basis of the team has remained and we are benefiting from it this season as well.”
