Breaking: Tottenham handed injury blow against Burnley as Bryan Gil limps off

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a considerable injury blow against Burnley, with winger Bryan Gil being forced off.

The Spaniard started the clash against the Clarets in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup but was withdrawn in the first-half with the scores still level at 0-0.

At this moment in time, it is unclear quite what injury the young playmaker had suffered, but some suggestions on social media seemed to allude to a hamstring problem.

The former Sevilla man was eventually replaced by fellow winger Lucas Moura, who was introduced on the 25-minute mark.

Should he be out for an extended period, it sees one of Spurs’ bright sparks to the season so far restricted to the sidelines.

After arriving from Sevilla in a deal that saw Erik Lamela move to Spain, he has made 12 appearances in all competitions and managed to assist a goal in Spurs’ 3-0 victory over Pacos de Ferreira in the Europa Conference League playoffs back in August.

Of his 12 outings for the north London outfit however, just seven of those have been starts and he is yet to be named in a Premier League starting XI.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard also represents yet another injury concern in what has been a hugely-hampered campaign thus far.

Steven Bergwijn missed large swaths of the season following a problem on international duty and has only recently made his return to action.

Son Heung-Min, Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon are all among those players who have been suffering with issues throughout the season.

Nuno Espirito Santo will hope that Gil’s injury isn’t too serious with Spurs deep in preparations for this weekend’s Premier League meeting against Manchester United.
