London crime: Driver, 18, wanted for ‘joyriding stolen Range Rover wrong way through Blackwall Tunnel then smashing into van’

An 18-year-old driver is wanted for allegedly joyriding a stolen Range Rover the wrong way through the Blackwall Tunnel and smashing into a van.

Police are also hunting Johal Rathour in connection with vehicle theft, dangerous driving and failing to stop for cops after he is alleged to have driven against oncoming traffic in the 1.35km underground Thames crossing in South East London.

Rathour is described as an Asian man, 5ft 8ins tall, with black curly hair, a beard, a distinctive horizontal scar between his eyebrows and a ‘Mum’ hand tattoo.

He has links to Newham, Romford, Grays and Erith (Kent).

Police first released pictures of the crash on August 6 revealing they had “terminated” the chase to minimise risk.

He appears to have stolen a Range Rover Evoque, which costs around £33,000 new.

East Road and Transport police said Rathour hit a member of the public “head-on” before escaping on foot. Fortunately there were no serious injuries.

The force added: “We’ll leave no stone unturned.”
