Murder arrest after south London shooting

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of murder after another man was shot to death yesterday (Thursday October 21) in Loughborough Junction.

Another man was arrested on suspicion of assisting the alleged offender. Both are being held by police.

The victim, a man in his 20s, is thought to have been shot on Belinda Road, between Camberwell and Brixton, early on Thursday morning, officers said.

Police were called by staff at a south London hospital at about 6.25am after a man was rushed in with gunshot wounds. King’s College Hospital is nearest to the scene of the shooting. The man died of his wounds in hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Detective chief inspector Mark Rogers, leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers.

“I would urge any witnesses, or anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area of Belinda Road to please come forward and speak with us. Any piece of information could be vital in helping us to identify those responsible for taking a young man’s life.”

The man’s next of kin have been informed; formal identification is yet to take place. A post-mortem examination will also be held.

Extra police officers are still patrolling the area and anyone with any information or concerns should speak to them.
