Genk manager sets out his vision for how to defeat West Ham in Europa League

Genk manager John van den Brom has said his side will aim to dominate possession as a way to keep the West Ham attacking players at bay.

The Hammers welcome Genk to the London Stadium on Thursday evening and Van den Brom was in a bullish mood when talking about his team’s chances against the Premier League outfit.

The former Dutch international was under no illusion that it will be a tough match against the Group H leaders but he is not one to shy away from a challenge.

I’m never worried about anything in football, as a player I wasn’t and as a coach as well,” Van den Brom told football.london.

“The most important thing is what we are going to do tomorrow as a team, against a very good team like West Ham. I think West Ham play with a lot of confidence, they had a good result last weekend, they also have had good results in the Europa League so they play with confidence. I don’t know how they’re going to play because in Europe they sometimes start with other players but they are still good players.

“I always look to my team and I also see a lot of possibilities and opportunities to play a good game tomorrow and that’s the job we will try to do.

“They have some good players in the team and we have to take care of them, we have to take care especially in defence. But what I always say is, I am a Dutch guy and I’m always thinking about when we have the ball and when we have possession and if we can use possession to create chances.”

Genk go into the clash on the back of three straight defeats but Van den Brom was in a confident mood when talking about his team.

“We have an attacking team, I have a good team with good players who can do something special because they showed me that so many times before,” he said. “Tomorrow we’re playing in a nice stadium, with a good atmosphere and a great pitch and it will be the next challenge for us.”
