Westminster station fire live: Updates as 40 firefighters rush to London Underground station

Westminster Station was evacuated this morning after smoke was seen coming from an electrical room (October 5).

Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade (LFB) rushed to the London Underground station at just before 11.30am.

According to the LFB, around six fire engines and 40 firefighters dealt with the emergency.

Photos on social media showed passengers leaving the station as police set up a cordon around the entrance.

TfL later confirmed that was no actual fire at the station and the emergency services dealt with smoke from an electrical room in the basement.

The smoke was under control within about an hour and 10 minutes as of around 12.50pm.

It took around another hour for the station to reopen just before 2pm.
