On This Day: Manuel Lanzini completes West Ham United comeback with sensational strike

Manuel Lanzini’s unstoppable last-gasp strike completed a sensational comeback as West Ham United scored three late goals to draw 3-3 at Tottenham Hotspur on this day in 2020.

Spurs looked on course to send the Hammers to a miserable derby day defeat in north London when Son Heung-min scored within 60 seconds and two Harry Kane goals put the hosts 3-0 up inside 16 minutes.

But David Moyes’ men were not beaten and, following the ‘Never give up’  mantra of Thames Ironworks FC founder Arnold Hills, battled their way back into the game.

Fabián Balbuena gave the Hammers hope on 82 minutes before Davinson Sánchez’s own-goal three minutes later sent the home team into a state of panic.

And the collapse was complete in the fourth minute of added time when Robert Snodgrass won a free-kick wide on the left. Aaron Cresswell delivered and the ball was cleared only as far as Lanzini, who expertly steered a shot beyond Hugo Lloris and into the top right-hand corner via the underside of the crossbar to equalise.

The goal sparked wild celebrations among the players, substitutes and backroom staff in an otherwise empty Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with supporters unfortunately not permitted to be present due to the COVID pandemic.

Enjoy the best of the action from an unforgettable afternoon again here with West Ham TV!
