London property: The £750,000 parking space that’s more expensive than the average London home

If you have ever been stung by a parking fine you will know the colourful range of emotions a £130 bill is likely to provoke.

Though it is easier than ever to use public transport to get around London, there are still plenty of people that need a car to get about.

How on earth do you expect to get your Selfridges Christmas Day hamper home on the bus?

No one in their right mind would drag a grand’s worth of cheese and port onto a grubby Tube platform.

So if you are driving around London a lot and want to avoid a ticket, it might be worth investing in a parking space.

MyLondon has looked far and wide and we can reveal that a very unassuming black garage door in Portman Square, Marleybone, is actually a £750,000 parking space for two.

It’s the most expensive parking space for sale in London.

MyLondon calculated you would have to park illegally over 5,770 times before the investment became cost-effective, that is over 15 years worth of parking tickets.

You can understand why super-rich people just leave their cars around.

The garage is connected to Orchard Court which was used by Churchill for Britain’s Special Operations Executive in WW2

Posh estate agents Manors London is advertising the “double garage space available within this 24 hour portered residential building on the east side of Portman Square, moments from the world-renowned Selfridges store and Oxford Street”.

You might think for £750k you would get Michael Caine to look after your motor while you get fitted on Savile Row, or perhaps even a lift taking you into an Underground lair.

Unfortunately, the garage appears to be bog-standard, with some cement showing around the breezeblocks and an abandoned chest of drawers at the back.

The garage at Orchard Court is roughly 9m by 3.2m, which would give you plenty of room for a Bentley Mulsanne Grand Limousine or a small motorbike collection.

The price of the parking space does not really come as a surprise with one flat at Orchard Court selling for nearly £8million in 2017.

Other spaces in the area also go for whopping prices, like a space in Knightsbridge for £250,000 that does not even meet the average UK size.

If you have the dosh and a good reason to drive around Mayfair this might be perfect, the rest of us will probably stick to the bus.
