BBC Casualty: You may recognise star George Rainsford’s wife from EastEnders

Soap stars seem to have a funny way of ending up with each other, with stars of different shows often pairing up off screen.

Even rival shows like EastEnders and Coronation Street sometimes see love bloom between the actors, giving the impression that the soap star world is all one big family.

The couplings seem to make sense with sharing the strict schedules and unsociable working hours that soap stars have to commit to.

George Rainsford, 39, has played Dr Ethan Hardy in Casualty since 2013, gaining a nomination for Best Actor at the 2017 TV Choice Awards for his portrayal.

However, what you may not realise is that George’s wife is a soap star in her own right having appeared on the biggest of them all: EastEnders.

Jaimi Barbakoff married George in 2012, and the pair have two children.

They appeared in Casualty together for a couple of episodes in 2016 and earlier this year in 2021 with Jaimi playing Cheryl O’Shaunessy.

But Jaimi has also played a role on Albert Square all the way back in 2007, nearly 15 years ago.

She played the character of Lee, a Customs and Excise officer who comes to visit Big Mo in the March 6 episode that year.

As just a one off performance it might be tough for EastEnders fans to remember her.

But she’s also appeared in a number of other notable TV shows, films and video games.

These include Pride, Black Mirror, Assassin’s Creed, Holby City, The Bill, and Doctors.

Casualty is next on BBC One at 9.30pm on Saturday (2 September).
