Tooting: Body of 63-year-old man found in South London street as police rush to the scene

The body of a 63-year-old man has been found in South London this morning.

Police were called to Church Lane, Tooting, at around 6.30am on Friday (October 15) to reports of an injured man in the street.

Officers attended the scene alongside London Ambulance Service (LAS), where they found the man unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, a Met spokesperson confirmed. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

A resident of Church Lane told My London a tent has been placed over the body and officers have been asking residents if they have seen anything.

“This morning there were around three ambulances and the same number of police cars,” she said.

“We were woken up by police ringing the doorbell to ask if we had seen anything.”

The man’s family has been informed and enquiries are ongoing, the Met spokesperson added.

A police spokesperson said: “Police were called to Church Lane, SW17 at 6.31am on Friday, 15 October after a man was found lying injured in the street.

“Officers attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics and found a 63-year-old man who was unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

“His next of kin have been informed.

“Enquiries are ongoing and a cordon is in place but at this stage, there is nothing to indicate that his death is suspicious.”
