Police launch urgent enquiry after schoolgirl sexually assaulted in South London park

A police investigation has been launched after a 15-year-old schoolgirl was “physically and sexually assaulted” at a South London skate park.

The victim, a pupil from Bullers Wood School for Girls, was attacked on Friday last week (October 8) at approximately 4pm, at Beckenham Place Park, Bromley.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested and bailed to a date in mid-November, a Met spokesperson confirmed.

In a newsletter published to parents, the school urged students not to travel to and from school alone and to report any concerns to the police

Mrs K Sanderson, the School’s Director of Safeguarding said: “We are very sorry to advise you that a sexual assault has taken place on a female student in Beckenham Place Park near the skate park.

“This incident took place after school on Friday 8th October at approximately 5pm.

“We would ask you to be vigilant and report any concerns to the police.

“We are advising students not to travel alone through parks and also want to emphasise the importance of not speaking to strangers or sharing personal information on social media contact details.”

A Met spokesperson said: “Police were called on Tuesday, 12 October to a report of a sexual assault at Beckenham Place Park, Bromley.

“It was reported that the victim, a girl aged 15, was sexually and physically assaulted by a man in the park just after 4pm on Friday, 8 October.

“An investigation is ongoing. One man, aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and later bailed to a date in mid-November.

“Anyone with information should call 101 with reference 4133/12OCT21.”
