The number of Covid-19 infections remains high across south west London with all boroughs reporting hundreds of new cases per week.
That’s according to the latest data shared by Public Health England (PHE), over the seven days up to October 7.
With most Covid-19 restrictions lifted and a large proportion of the population vaccinated against the virus, it can feel at times like the pandemic is largely behind us, yet the data proves otherwise.
Infection rates per 100,000 people climbed in many south west London boroughs such as Richmond over the period, while others like Croydon showed small declines. Cases per week remained high across the region (see below).
Richmond (337.1) and Reigate and Banstead (369.9) had among the highest infection rates per 100,000 people of any south west London borough over the time period.
Southwark (135) and Lambeth (163.1) had the lowest rates per 100,000 people.

As of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 38,520 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.
The Government’s figures meanwhile showed a further 181 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday (October 12), bringing the UK total to 137,944.
Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 163,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, amid a new report that heavily criticised the Conservative government’s handling of the earlier stages of the pandemic, calling it among the UK’s “worst public health failures” ever.

- Croydon — 189.2
- Wandsworth — 245.7
