Police explain why incredibly loud fighter jet was ‘rumbling’ over East London

If you just heard a very loud sound in the sky in your part of London – don’t be alarmed.

The police have explained the source of the loud noise – It’s a USAF F15 jet transiting over London. They started out from the base RAF Lakenheath – a Royal Air Force station near the village of Lakenheath in Suffolk, England.

Tower Hamlets police shared the explanation alongside a flight radar image which showed the jet flying over Waltham Forest.

“Just heard this jet. I’m in Wood Green near Tottenham” one person said. “Just heard this in Chigwell” another Londoner replied.

One person posted a video of the jets flying over Chigwell where the loud sound can be heard:

The jet is an American twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter aircraft, primarily used by the United States Air Force and the Israeli air force. It first flew in July 1972, and entered service in 1976. It is among the most successful modern fighters.

The flypast of four US military jets took place over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of an American football event.

There is an NFL game on at the stadium for the London Games clash between the Falcons and Jets.

There will be flypasts on both 10th and 17th October.
