Channel 4 Tom Parker: Viewers moved to tears ‘within minutes’ as singer details tumour diagnosis

Just minutes into The Wanted star Tom Parker’s Channel 4 documentary, ‘Inside My Head’, viewers were left in tears as Tom opened up about the affect his cancer diagnosis has had on his life.

The singer, 33, announced last year that he had been diagnosed with an inoperable grade 4 glioblastoma; devastating news for Tom, his wife Kelsey, two children and his dedicated army of fans.

At the start of the documentary, Tom was seen in his home opening up about the diagnosis.

Tom said: “Its easy to put on a brave face because of my kids and my wife, but sometimes it’s good to just let it all out.

“It’s so hard to think about what the future holds, because I don’t know what that is.

“It’d be so easy to just to just lie down and die. But sometimes I think I am put here for a reason”.

Tom is referring to his plan to host and perform at a star-studded charity concert to raise money for other cancer patients.

The concert, which has now taken place at the Royal Albert Hall last month, had all the proceeds split between the Stand Up To Cancer and The National Brain Appeal.

He performed with his fellow The Wanted bandmates.

When the gig happened last month, an emotional Tom was in tears as he spoke about how much hard work it had take to get the band back on stage.

The emotional start to the show understandably had viewers in tears – as Tom shared what it’s like being faced with a terminal illness as well as all his plans to improve cancer care.

“Only 10 minutes in and my heart is breaking for @TomParker”, one wrote.

“I don’t cry much these days but sobbing watching. What an inspiration & a hero” viewers said.

“Already crying! The strength @TomParker and Kelsey have is admirable! What a family” another added.

Tom has undergone 30 radiotherapy sessions and six rounds of chemotherapy.

While the treatment has enhanced his chance of prolonging his life, Tom has admitted that the gruelling sessions have left him unable to “walk around the kitchen”.

Later in the show, Tom is seen sharing banter with his The Wanted band mates on a video call and he says that he hopes the band can perform together again, some seven years after they were last on stage.
