The Met Office has issued a fog warning for large swathes of England, including London, as drivers are warned to be cautious on the roads.

The yellow fog warning was issued across eastern, southeastern and southwestern parts of the country overnight.

The Met Office has advised motorists to be extra careful as the fog could lead to difficult driving conditions and some travel disruption.

Warnings were put in place from 4am and will run until 10am, encompassing the East Midlands, Northamptonshire, East of England, London, South East England and South West England.

People are advised to be mindful of slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible.

There is also a chance of delays or cancellations to flights.

Meanwhile, Brits will see a band of rain, heavy at first across Scotland and Northern Ireland, that will edge slowly southeastwards.

As the rain reaches northern England and Wales, it is set to turn lighter and patchier. Elsewhere, morning fog patches will clear later during the day to leave a fine, warm afternoon.

Brits should make the most of the unseasonably warm October weather – the long-term forecast calls for things to turn colder and snow to fall over higher ground in the UK as the month moves into November.
