Old Street live: Updates as Insulate Britain block rush hour traffic near London Underground station

Insulate Britain activists have blocked a main London roundabout in their latest disruptive protest.

Protestors have made their way onto the road at the Old Street roundabout in the city this morning (Friday, October 8) and are blocking the road.

The climate change activists are calling on the UK government to fund a national home insulation programme starting with all social housing.

In a statement on their website, Insulate Britain wrote: “Our actions will continue until the government makes a meaningful statement indicating its intention to insulate all of Britain’s 29 million leaky homes by 2030, and all social housing by 2025.”

Protestors have caused disruption across the capital, blocking Blackwall Tunnel (North and South side), Hanger Lane and Wandsworth Bridge earlier this week.

In their latest protest today, 15 activists have blocked one of the Old Street roundabout’s exits.

Traffic is now quickly building up in the area as the A5201 Westbound at the junction of City Road was blocked due to the disruption.
