One of Princess Diana’s favourite dress designers saw his Knightsbridge shop flooded and a £12,000 wedding dress destroyed.
After Monday night’s torrential rain, Azagury Designs was one of the many businesses in Knightsbridge which suffered considerable damage.
Jacques Azagury’s beautiful designs were loved by the likes of Princess Diana and Dame Helen Mirren.

Azagury first met Diana in 1987 when the pair were introduced by then British Vogue editor Anna Harvey.
They clearly got off to a good start, as the designer often dressed the Princess and was known to visit her for fittings at Kensington Palace.

Azagury told the BBC that the flooding “ruined” almost all the clothes on the ground floor of his Knightsbridge shop, including a wedding dress estimated to be worth £12,000.
He said: “I don’t know how long the clean-up will take or when we will be able to reopen again.
“It depends on how much help we get.”
One Instagram user offered their assistance.
They commented on a post by Azagury: “Omg am so sorry . Can we do anything to help? I have a shop in north London if you need to work from somewhere.”
But, Azagury replied: “That is so kind thank you but we’ll be ok . Regards, Jacques x”

Next door to the shop, an Egyptian restaurant had to throw out all of its food due to the flooding.
Elias Sawaya, the head chef at Al Basha, told The National: “Things were getting better after the pandemic. Now we have to throw the food out.”
The co-owner of another Knightsbridge business, Serene Dental, said the business had been “totally ruined” by flooding.
Firefighters received more than a hundred calls to flooding across London on Tuesday morning, with Knightsbridge one of the worst impacted.
TfL also said at least four lines were suspended or severely delayed due to the floods that morning.
Other roads across London, including the A4 just past the Hammersmith flyover, and Choats Road in Barking and Dagenham were flooded.

Sadiq Khan cited the flooding as another example of the impacts of climate change and took the opportunity to urge the government to devolve more funding to local leaders to help them deal with flooding.
He tweeted: “Once again, we’re seeing the impact of the climate emergency on our doorstep.
“In London we’re leading from the front to tackle this crisis, and I’ll continue to urge other politicians here and around the world to take the action that’s desperately needed.”
