Vladimir Coufal makes Czech Republic decision as West Ham players set for international duty

Vladimir Coufal has withdrawn from the Czech Republic international squad ahead of the October internationals.

The right-back was set to link up with his country for two matches against Wales and Belarus as part of the Czech’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers but, instead, he will remain in England with West Ham.

The defender was recently sidelined with a groin injury and was rested for the Europa League match against Rapid Vienna but was deemed fit enough to take on Brentford on Sunday.

Coufal’s withdrawal from the squad gives the defender a two-week break to fully recuperate from his recent groin issue and return to Hammers action on October 17 fully fit and recharged ahead of a busy couple of months.

West Ham have a run of seven matches in 21 days to contend with between the October and November international breaks and with nine men away on duty for their country, the depth of the Hammers squad is set to be tested.

Such has his success been, football.london understands that the defender has agreed a new deal at the club which will extend his stay until 2024 with a further one-year option. The defender will see his basic salary rise as a reward for his fantastic form at the London Stadium.

Despite Coufal’s withdrawal from the Czech Republic squad, West Ham fans will still have their eye on their upcoming matches with Tomas Soucek and Alex Kral both set to be in action for Jaroslav Silhavy’s team.
