Channel 4 Great British Bake Off: Noel Fielding’s daughter’s unusual name and the reason he didn’t drink for 6 years

Noel Fielding has starred as presenter of the Great British Bake Off since 2017, when the show changed hands from BBC One to Channel 4.

The presenter is also well known for his work with The Mighty Boosh comedy troupe alongside comedy partner Julian Barratt in the 2000s.

The Westminster-born actor and comedian has been on our screens for years – but there’s still a few things you might not know about him.

In 2013, a Guardian article revealed that Fielding fell ill with hepatitis after completing a degree at Brunel University – and later revealed he was helped through this by friend and collaborator Nigel Coan.

Fielding then stopped drinking for six years afterwards, even while those around him were enjoying themselves.

Noel Fielding has presented the Great British Bake Off since 2017, now starring alongside Matt Lucas in Britain’s favourite tent

He said: “I used to be able to enjoy myself with just nothing. I’d stay up till four in the morning, with everyone else being drunk. Just make a bit of effort and you can get used to it.”

But he later admitted that when he rose to fame in his late twenties, that he did dabble quite a lot in drinks and drugs.

He was also named as one of GQ’s 50 best dressed British men in 2015.

Fielding has remained fairly private about his love life both on and off screen, but there are a few details in the public domain.

Fielding and his partner, radio DJ Lliana Bird, live together in Highgate with their two daughters.

Their first child was named Dali (after Spanish artist Salvador Dali) and was born in spring 2018.

Dali was renowned for his technical skill and precision, and the striking and bizarre images in his work.

Fielding says that Dali is one of his heroes and ‘the reason he went to art school’ after seeing one of his paintings, with a burning giraffe in the background, when he was just 12 years old.
