Squamish RCMP say ‘no risk to public’ after warning of man with rifle

SQUAMISH (NEWS 1130) — Mounties in Squamish say they have contained a situation that prompted them to issue a warning about a man with a gun Tuesday.

Corp. Angela Kermer says police received multiple calls about a man with a gun around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Diamond Head and Diamond Roads, near a London Drugs.

“Squamish RCMP received multiple calls about a man with a gun. The man was chasing a young boy in a residential neighbourhood.” she tells NEWS 1130, adding that police dogs, and the Emergency Response Team were called in to secure the area, and assist people who needed to leave their homes.

“Our members continue their work at scene to help the man involved. We’re asking people to continue staying away from the area, and not to post anything, including photos onto their social media. Given the information that police have, and our response — we don’t believe that the Squamish community safety is at risk.”

POLICE INCIDENT UPDATE: Police have the area contained and Diamond Head Road is closed at Diamond Road and along. There is no risk to the public at this time and police will be in the area for some time.
